Supply Chain Value Stream Engineering
Not enough primes can map their entire program supply chain, and primes and subcontractors do not communicate enough about supply chain risks. In these conditions, it is impossible to identify all the potential weak links and improvement opportunities.
Plexus provides the solution;
Consider starting out with Bill Of Material (BOM) parts and their ‘used-on’ relationships from your executive system. From this you can create a very big network of dependency pretty much automatically.
Then organize this network according to process, vendor, contract, location, part-type, material etc… many of these grouping are hierarchic (e.g. contract structure).
By doing this in Plexus you can visually navigate your production system from raw material all the way to final assembly within your organization and with your partners.
You can use this structure to methodically capture and share value stream knowledge including flow times, cost, risk and opportunity across the supply chain. Crucially you can perform what-ifs and analyse and mine this information computationally to target opportunities for waste removal and risk reduction etc.
Variations of this approach can address Engineering, Financial, Geopolitical, Regulatory and Operational issues in New Product Introduction programs and established supply chains.
